Restaurants & Dining
There are a multitude of restaurants in the Alexandria area. They include major chain restaurants such as Applebee's, Chili's, IHOP and Outback, plus many small family owned restaurants. Chinese buffets and fast food places are plentiful. Most of the hotels are within easy driving distance of Walmart and other grocery stores.
Things to do
Alexandria has an excellent zoo downtown that's just the right size for a day trip. Kent Plantation House will be open for tours and is located just inside the Alexandria city limits. There's an art museum downtown and the River Oaks gallery. Camp Beauregard is located in Pineville and has an excellent museum themed on the Louisiana maneuvers and life during World War 2.
For those who like to shop there is a nice sized mall and several antique stores in the area. Most of the bride's family can give directions to the best ones.
45 minutes up Interstate 49 is Natchitoches, the oldest town in the Louisiana Purchase. There are many plantation homes there that can be toured, as well as an alligator farm.
